Assistant Youth Climbing Coach
We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Youth Climbing Coach to support our Head Coach in developing young athletes and maintaining a positive, safe climbing environment. This role combines hands-on coaching with program support to help develop the next generation of climbers.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience coaching youth climbing or competitive climbing
- USA Climbing Level 1 Coach certification required, Level 2 preferred
- Personal climbing experience: minimum 5.11b sport climbing, V4 bouldering
- Current First Aid and CPR certification required
- Basic understanding of climbing movement and technique analysis
- Experience working with youth athletes preferred
- Knowledge of fundamental climbing safety and risk management
- Basic route setting experience a plus

Responsibilities
Training Support
- Assist Head Coach in implementing training programs across age groups
- Lead small group technique sessions under supervision
- Demonstrate proper climbing technique and movement
- Support skill assessments and provide feedback
- Help maintain training equipment and inspect safety gear
- Assist with route setting for team training
Athlete Development
- Help conduct skill assessments using video analysis
- Support implementation of training plans
- Monitor climber safety and technique
- Assist in tracking:
- Climbing progression
- Training attendance
- Basic physical benchmarks
- Support positive team culture development
- Help with injury prevention education
Program Support
- Document athlete attendance and participation
- Assist with parent communications
- Help organize team events and activities
- Support competition preparation
- Maintain training equipment
- Assist with basic facility tasks
Competition Support
- Assist Head Coach at local competitions
- Help with competition logistics and preparation
- Support athletes during warm-up and competition
- Aid in equipment transport and setup
- Provide basic belaying support during events
Required Skills
- Strong climbing technique and ability to demonstrate
- Basic understanding of climbing movement principles
- Excellent spotting and belaying abilities
- Strong attention to safety protocols
- Good communication skills with youth and parents
- Basic organizational abilities
- Ability to work weekends and evenings
- Must pass background check and drug screening
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb and demonstrate at required levels
- Capable of spotting and belaying for extended periods
- Lifting and moving crash pads and equipment (up to 40 lbs)
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Visual acuity to assess climber safety
This position reports directly to the Head Youth Climbing Coach and works collaboratively with the coaching team to support program objectives.
