Baristas at Fiddlehead are the heart of the Fern Café experience. This role focuses on warm, attentive
customer service, high-quality food and beverage preparation, and contributing to a positive, collaborative team
environment.

Qualifications

  • No prior barista experience required, we will train the right candidate

  • Food Handler’s Certification required (can be obtained upon hiring)

  • Strong customer service skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor

  • Interest in specialty coffee and food service

  • Reliable, punctual, and dependable

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Basic math skills and comfort handling cash

  • Passion for contributing to a healthy, respectful team culture

Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Greet customers warmly and take orders accurately

  • Process payments and handle transactions responsibly

  • Create a clean, welcoming café environment

  • Respond to customer questions and requests professionally

  • Support consistently positive guest experiences

  • Maintain cleanliness of dining and service areas

  • Always speak respectfully about customers and coworkers

Food & Beverage Service

  • Prepare coffee and espresso drinks to established standards

  • Assemble food items according to recipes and guidelines

  • Follow all food safety and sanitation practices

  • Monitor product quality and freshness

  • Stock service stations and café supplies

  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work areas

  • Support basic inventory tracking and restocking

Operations Support

  • Follow opening and closing checklists

  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace throughout shifts

  • Follow cash handling and safety procedures

  • Complete basic shift documentation as needed

  • Assist with daily cleaning and light prep tasks

  • Adhere to all safety and sanitation protocols

Team Collaboration

  • Contribute to a positive, life-giving café culture

  • Communicate clearly and kindly, especially during busy periods

  • Stay calm, focused, and collaborative during peak service

  • Participate in team meetings and trainings

  • Follow direction from café leadership

  • Communicate issues or concerns promptly to management
