Head Bike Coach
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience coaching youth cycling or competitive mountain biking
- USA Cycling Level 2 Coach certification required, Level 3 preferred
- Proven track record of developing youth cyclists and leading successful competitive teams
- Strong knowledge of bike mechanics, maintenance, and safety protocols
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required
- Demonstrated expertise in various cycling disciplines including mountain biking, trail riding, and road cycling
- Experience organizing and leading training camps and competitive events
- Strong understanding of youth athletic development, sports psychology, and age-appropriate training methods
- Proven ability to develop and implement structured training programs and progression plans

Responsibilities
Program Development and Management
- Design and implement comprehensive training programs for different skill levels (beginner to advanced)
- Create detailed lesson plans incorporating technical skills, physical conditioning, and tactical awareness
- Develop and maintain progression metrics for individual athletes
- Establish safety protocols and emergency response procedures
- Coordinate with equipment managers for maintenance and upgrades of training equipment
Athlete Development
- Conduct regular skill assessments and provide detailed feedback to athletes and parents
- Create individualized training plans for athletes based on their goals and abilities
- Monitor and track athlete progress using performance metrics and video analysis
- Provide guidance on nutrition, recovery, and injury prevention
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes both personal growth and competitive excellence
Administrative Duties
- Maintain detailed documentation of athlete progress, incident reports, and training logs
- Organize and lead parent meetings to discuss athlete development and program objectives
- Coordinate with Program Director to manage team budget and equipment needs
- Plan and execute team building activities and special events
- Manage team communication through appropriate channels (email, app, etc.)
- Create and distribute weekly training schedules and competition calendars
Competition Management
- Develop race strategies and tactical plans for competitions
- Coordinate team travel and logistics for away events
- Provide on-site coaching and support during competitions
- Conduct pre and post-race briefings with athletes
- Track and analyze competition results to inform training adjustments
Professional Development
- Stay current with latest cycling coaching techniques and safety standards
- Attend coaching clinics and workshops to maintain certifications
- Network with other cycling programs and coaches to share best practices
- Contribute to the development of junior coaching staff
- Participate in program evaluation and improvement initiatives
Required Skills
- Exceptional bike handling skills and ability to demonstrate proper technique
- Strong understanding of youth physical and psychological development
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Proven leadership and team-building capabilities
- Proficiency with training technology and software (Training Peaks, Strava, etc.)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work weekends and some evenings as required
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Background check and drug screening required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to ride and demonstrate techniques for extended periods
- Capable of lifting and handling bikes and equipment up to 50 pounds
- Able to perform basic bike maintenance and adjustments
- Standing, walking, and riding for extended periods in various weather conditions
- Physical stamina to maintain high energy levels throughout training sessions
This position reports directly to the Program Director and requires close collaboration with other coaching staff, facility management, and support personnel.
