Route Setter

We are looking for a creative, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious Route Setter to join our setting team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and installing high-quality boulder problems and/or top-rope and lead routes that challenge and inspire our community. You will play a vital role in maintaining the character of our gym by ensuring the climbing experience is diverse, ergonomic, and inclusive for all skill levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Route Design: Create aesthetic and functional routes across a wide range of grades (V0–V10+ / 5.6–5.13).
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to strict work-at-height safety protocols, including proper use of ladders, lifts, and rigging equipment.
  • Maintenance: Regularly strip walls, wash holds, and organize the hold room. Perform basic wall maintenance and T-nut repairs as needed.
  • Forerunning: Participate in collaborative forerunning sessions to grade routes, provide constructive feedback, and ensure movement is safe and ergonomic.
  • Community Engagement: Act as an ambassador for the gym, occasionally interacting with members to gather feedback on the setting.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 1+ years of commercial setting experience (preferred) or a strong background in competitive climbing.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with impact drivers, various bolt types, and hold systems.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs, work on your feet for 8 hours, and climb at a high level (V5 or 5.12 minimum for forerunning purposes).
  • Vision: A deep understanding of climbing movement and the ability to translate that into creative sequences on the wall.
